Hand-Gilded Print Editions
In traditional botanical art, plants and flowers often float against pristine white backgrounds, creating a clean aesthetic that emphasizes their delicate beauty. While this classical approach has its own elegance, I chose to move beyond this convention by introducing hand-applied gold leaf.
The luminous surface brings the botanical subject forward, transforming it from study to presence. The use of gold draws inspiration from artistic traditions in which gilding elevates and intensifies the image — from Medieval icons to Asian silk paintings — where light and surface carry both visual and symbolic weight.
Each print is carefully produced on fine art archival paper using permanent, pigment-based inks, then individually hand-gilded and sealed in my studio. The result is a dialogue between botanical precision and radiant surface — a reinterpretation of tradition through light, material, and craftsmanship.
Each print is accompanied by a signed and sealed certificate of authenticity. For inquiries, please contact me at info@grimaldibotanicals.com.
